Wedeka stores hazardous substances safely thanks to Firescreen®
Storing hazardous substances requires a high level of safety. Normally, this means that expensive sliding or rolling doors have to be used for fire safety, but Firescreen® showed at Wedeka that an equally high level of safety in the storage of hazardous substances can be achieved with fire curtains.
The challenge
Wedeka was looking for the safest solution for the storage of hazardous substances. The design was based on multiple rooms next to each other, all with individual fire protection. The real challenge was that these hazardous storage rooms were situated right next to each other. For this type of storage, fire-resistant sliding doors are usually considered an inexpensive and relatively simple solution, or fire-resistant roller doors if there is no space for sliding doors.
This situation, with rooms directly adjacent to each other, meant that sliding doors were not an option due to lack of space, and since there was no need to close the rooms every day, fire-resistant roller doors would have been a very costly solution because of the large number of openings.

The solution
In collaboration with the customer, Firescreen® looked at the various options for this situation. The most economical solution soon emerged when the various options were compared with each other; Firescreen® Temperature fire curtains. These fire curtains meet all the requirements in respect of the safety needed, and there was also more than enough space to install them. In addition, they were inexpensive compared to a solution such as rolling doors, an advantage which was multiplied considering the large number of openings needing fire protection.
