BOL.com case: Fire-resistant isolation of the transport system
BOL.com is the largest online store in the Netherlands. The fire safety of its new distribution centre in the country was boosted by Firescreen®! The building concerned has a surface area of approximately 50,000 m² and 135,000 m² of floor space, from which thousands of packages are sent out every day. The distribution centre uses conveyor belts, but these create a weak link in the fire partition.
The challenge
To improve fire safety, a solution had to be found to seal the openings in the wall at the points where the conveyor belt passes a fire partition. The space between the conveyor belts also had to be kept as small as possible, to prevent products falling between these belts. An extra challenge was that the fire-resistant solution had to be built around the previously installed conveyor belts.
The solution
Firescreen® took up the challenge through a close collaboration between the costumer and Hoefnagels fire doors.
Several options were looked at, where ultimately the decisive factor was maximising fire safety; a Firescreen® Temperature fire curtain. Thanks to the minimal installation space, this barrier is also an ideal solution for using between two conveyor belts.
